With new materials in the lithium-ion battery sector, VARTA products are set to become even more powerful. However, the production process also requires constant improvements in order to ensure responsible use of the resources employed and to enable cost-efficient production. The focus is on the development of innovative cell concepts, process technologies and sensors.

Research projects

TROPEX
Granulation for dry extrusion and evaluation of pilot electrodes and electrode balancing is being explored in 21700 cells.
GlasSeLIB
Together with the University of Bayreuth and renowned industrial partners such as Tesla, novel battery separators made of glass will be developed.
PolySafe
Together with the University of Bayreuth and renowned industrial partners such as Tesla, novel battery separators made of glass will be developed.
OekoMatBatt
The OekoMatBatt project is concerned with the development of ecologically and economically sustainable materials for the lithium-ion battery.
WaBaFli
This research project is about the future of flying. Water-based high-capacity lithium-ion battery electrodes are to be developed for this purpose.
NoVOC
The project addresses the Topic Environmentally sustainable processing techniques applied to large scale electrode and cell component manufacturing for Lithium-ion batteries.
Autkam
The project objective is to reduce defect structures during electrode calendering. To this end, the web tension will be optimized and the additional calendering module developed in the previous project "PErfektZELL" will be automated.
OpMoSi
In the OpMoSi project, pioneering battery technologies, namely hollow core-shell silicon-carbon (HCS Si-C) anodes, are being developed and optimised with the support of high-resolution imaging methods and advanced simulation technology.
