Solid-State-Batteries

The solid-state battery is the great hope of the automotive industry. By using a solid electrolyte and a lithium metal anode, the energy density should be further increased without compromising the safety of the battery. VARTA is focusing on solid-state batteries with cylindrical cell formats.

Research projects

The project, which is supported by the German government, focuses on the development of a new type of cathode for lithium-sulphur batteries with increased safety, energy density, efficiency and cycle stability.

The project deals with the development of lithium solid-state coin cells with high energy and durability.

A team from research and industry is working on the development of solid-state batteries. The focus is on lithium metal as anode material.
