Our Approach to Environmental, Social and Governance Topics at the VARTA AG-Group
These aspects are integrated into business processes and decision-making across the VARTA AG-Group.
The VARTA AG-Group’s reporting on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters is based on the identification of material topics. With reference to the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the report outlines the Group’s climate strategy, its management of material topics, and relevant key performance indicators, measures and progress. Group-wide policies provide guidance and support the implementation of the respective requirements. Details on the policies applicable to the individual ESG areas can be found in the corresponding sections.
Community engagement
VARTA AG-Group's business activities are built in communities that are also at the centre of these business activities. As part of its social commitment, VARTA AG-Group therefore supports projects that promote local communities.
The VARTA AG-Group supports various German and European sports clubs in the field of amateur and competitive sports. The VARTA AG-Group is also active in the area of child and youth development: the company engages with schoolchildren and students, contributing to knowledge sharing and supporting career guidance and professional development. Giving back to the community is an integral part of our corporate culture. Around the world, our employees actively support charitable initiatives by raising funds and collecting donations to support people in need.
Achievements
The VARTA AG-Group received the “ESG Industry Top Rated Company” distinction as part of the Sustainalytics ESG assessment in both 2023 and 2024.
The production sites of the VARTA AG-Group are regularly audited by independent third parties. The Brașov site successfully completed a SMETA 4-Pillar Audit in 2025, followed by the Ellwangen site in 2026. These audits cover labour standards, health and safety, environmental performance, and business ethics.
In 2022, all five production sites were assessed under the Intertek Workplace Conditions Assessment program achieving an overall score of 85 % and a “Very Good” rating.
