VARTA AG publishes sustainability report for the year 2022

With the publication of the Sustainability Report 2022, the technology company commits to its ambitious sustainability goals and presents the sustainability corporate agenda and implementation strategy.

VARTA's sustainability strategy comprises a series of targets and measures that minimise environmental and social impacts and demonstrate the company's commitment to sustainable development. Business practices should be designed to make a positive contribution to society and the environment. Based on the ten universal principles of the UN Global Compact and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), of which VARTA focuses on five, the technology company pursues this vision today and in the future. The Sustainability Report for 2022 follows the guiding principle "The Art of Balancing" and is intended to represent the pursuit of balance between economic growth and sustainability.

Dr Markus Hackstein, Speaker of the Board of VARTA AG: "We have already taken important steps to mitigate climate change. At the same time, we are aware that there is still much more to do. At VARTA, we have a strong sustainability team that has strong ties with all departments throughout the organization. This makes it possible for us to implement our sustainability strategy and achieve our targets. Realising that, we cannot reach our goals alone. We have extended sustainability requirements and measures to include our business." Rainer Hald, CTO of VARTA AG, adds: "In our actions, we are always looking to strike a balance between a business mindset and the promotion of social and environmental solutions. The question we ask ourselves here is: how can we produce energy solutions sustainably while using finite resources of the world? The answer lies in our realisation that we have a responsibility towards our planet and society. Therefore, we have been and continue to take comprehensive measures to fulfil our due diligence obligations."

With the VARTA AGs human rights policy statement, the company respects human rights throughout the group. Over the course of the last two years VARTA has reduced its scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 62%. In addition, the battery manufacturer from Ellwangen has committed to setting and validating a science based target in line with the Paris Agreement within the next 24 months. Recognising VARTA AGs sustainability efforts, the company has been selected as one of the ESG Industry Top Rated for 2023 by the ESG rating company Sustainalytics.
