- Conclusion of the sales process is expected in the coming months
- Insolvency proceedings have been opened for all four affected VARTA AG companies, and Tobias Wahl has been appointed as insolvency administrator
- Business operations were stabilized during the preliminary proceedings
- VARTA Consumer Batteries is not affected by the insolvency
Ellwangen, October 1, 2026. The next important milestone in the restructuring of the VARTA AG Group has been reached. On October 1, 2026, the Stuttgart District Court (Amtsgericht Stuttgart) opened insolvency proceedings for the four affected companies: VARTA AG, VARTA Microbattery GmbH, VARTA Storage GmbH and VARTA Micro Production GmbH. Attorney Tobias Wahl of Anchor Rechtsanwälte has been appointed as insolvency administrator.
„"Thanks to the great commitment of everyone involved, business operations were stabilized during the preliminary insolvency proceedings. This is a good starting point for the further restructuring," said insolvency administrator Tobias Wahl. Suppliers and customers continue to have confidence in the company's capabilities.
The VARTA Consumer Batteries division is not affected by the insolvency proceedings, as it is legally and operationally independent.
Structured sales process is proceeding as planned
To give the company a long-term perspective, a structured M&A process was initiated early on after the insolvency filings. "Interest in VARTA AG's core technological competencies remains unchanged in the market. We are aiming for a successful conclusion of the sales process within the coming months," emphasized Tobias Wahl. The clear goal of the proceedings is to develop a sustainable going-concern solution that secures the future of the company.
End of production for VARTA Micro Production in Nördlingen
While business operations have been stabilized at the sites, one sub-division faces an irreversible decision: owing to the loss of its most important customer, the end of production at the VARTA Micro Production plant in Nördlingen, already decided this spring, remains in effect. This step will be implemented as planned.
