Graz Battery Days 2025: Technology meets strategy in Europe's battery industry

Ellwangen/Graz, 22 May 2025 - Current developments and strategic issues in European battery research and value creation will be the focus when leading representatives from science, industry and politics come together in Graz from May 26 to 28, 2025. The Graz Battery Days conference, organized by VARTA AG in cooperation with Fraunhofer IKTS, is taking place for the fifth time. This time, the focus is on the key question: “A sustainable battery value chain as a competitive advantage for European economy?” - which is becoming increasingly relevant in view of geopolitical challenges, growing dependence on raw materials and climate policy objectives.

Clear focus. Fast action. In-depth expertise.

What happens in Graz carries weight: The Graz Battery Days have established themselves as a central meeting point for the European battery industry. The conference series initiated by VARTA Innovation stands for a practice-oriented exchange between research, industry and politics. - The aim is to quickly translate technological developments into marketable applications. Sustainability is not a side issue here, but part of the industrial strategy. The focus is on concrete approaches for resource-saving and competitive battery technology. Leading players from research and industry - such as Fraunhofer ISI, Umicore and Wacker - are providing the impetus.

“Anyone who speaks in Graz doesn't just want to be heard - they also want to make a difference,” says Stefan Koller, Managing Director of VARTA Innovation GmbH. “The Graz Battery Days are the place where high-tech and implementation meet.”

3,500 square meters of progress: VARTA AG invests in Impact

With the new research center in Graz, VARTA AG sent a clear signal at the beginning of 2024: We are getting serious about sustainable energy storage. The new campus offers space for development - from cell chemistry and new materials to production-ready technology. The team is already working on the first generation of silicon-based button cells, which are about to enter industrial production.

Let's talk batteries” - live, direct, without filters

Workshops instead of PowerPoint battles. Discussions at eye level. A get-together worthy of the name. And a conference dinner with a view over Graz. The Graz Battery Days 2025 are a place for visionaries with their feet on the ground - for decision-makers who know that the future won't wait. If you want to be there, come to Graz.
