Small, stable, and full of energy: microbatteries are becoming fashionable

Wearable Europe: VARTA Microbattery at the IDTechEx show in Berlin From pace counters in shoes and fitness trackers with vital data measurement to cable-free earbuds while you’re on the phone, devices are only as good as their energy supply, which has to be reliable and long-lasting. Coin cells from VARTA Microbattery GmbH are frequently used in these “wearables”: the CoinPower cells. These cells will be presented by VARTA Microbattery GmbH in Berlin on 10 and 11 April 2019 at this year’s “Wearable Europe” as part of the IDTechEx show. VARTA Microbattery will be at Stand M18 in the Estrel Convention Center. Andreas Warta, Key Account Manager at VARTA Microbattery GmbH, will give a detailed presentation of the CoinPower product range in the Exhibition Theatre at 2 pm on 10 April. The CoinPower cells stand out for their small size, high energy density and outstanding mechanical stability. Short charging times, a high degree of reliability and a robust structure round off their profile. The smallest models, the CP 7840 and CP 9440, are just four millimetres thick and have been developed with headphones, fitness wristbands and smart keys in mind. The cylindrical shape and high energy density of the CoinPower series make these microbatteries the ideal solution for wearables and medical devices. “We’re constantly accelerating the miniaturisation of our cells. This enables the manufacturers to make their appliances increasingly smaller and flatter,” explains Philipp Miehlich, General Manager OEM at VARTA Microbattery GmbH. The CoinPower series is produced in Ellwangen using a fully automated process, in one of the most state of the art production facilities in Europe. The series has led to a large number of patents, including the i-Lock system, which together with the circular form enables up to 30 percent higher energy density than comparable batteries on the market.
