Battery day: VARTA commemorates battery inventor Volta

The 18th of February is one of the more fun commemoration days. Battery Day is celebrated on Alessandro Volta's birthday. Volta was an Italian physicist and is considered a pioneer of electricity and the inventor of the battery. He was born on 18 February 1745. 55 years later, Volta presented the first functional galvanic element in the form of the so-called Voltaic pile. Today, it is regarded as the forerunner of the modern battery. Reason enough to check smoke detector batteries today and to realise just what is possible with these small and large energy storage devices. At VARTA AG, every day is a Battery Day.
