Company anniversary in Ellwangen

Company anniversary in Ellwangen: The VARTA Group can look back on a long tradition of 130 years of company history 1 billion batteries “Made in Germany” annually – a great ceremony at the headquarters of VARTA AG For 130 years, VARTA has stood for new and innovative energy-storage solutions. The Swabian company, synonymous with excellent know-how and products "Made in Germany", is 130 years old and will be celebrating with a ceremony for both employees and political and business representatives at the company's headquarters. The company, which was founded during the time of the German Empire, has become a multinational corporation whose batteries even traveled to the moon in Neil Armstrong's camera in 1969. But the company’s founding is not the only cause for celebration at the ceremony – it has been exactly ten years since the company joined the Montana Tech Components (MTC) Group, in effect making this event a double anniversary. In 1887, company founder Adolph Müller recognized the considerable market potential of energy-storage solutions. Back then, people were eager to get their hands on portable sources of energy for everyday use. In response, VARTA developed the first accumulators, thereby setting a milestone in the history of energy storage. Even today – 130 years later – rechargeable batteries remain one of the most popular products. The lithium-ion cells, which usually have a diameter smaller than a one-cent coin and are simultaneously both powerful and durable, are intrinsic to applications of consumer electronics and medical technologies. Due to products such as fitness trackers, smartwatches and cordless headphones, these little power packs – also known as CoinPower – have become globally recognized as optimal energy storage solutions.   Up to four million batteries each day The ten-year Swabian-Austrian partnership between the company group and Montana Tech Components has been a true success story. Michael Tojner, owner of MTC and Chairman of the VARTA AG Supervisory Board, is pursuing a rigorous expansion strategy. A new production site, for example, was established in Romania and production at the Ellwangen location was expanded. Newly established subsidiaries in the Far East and the U.S. are evidence of the defined strategy of being a leading global battery supplier. Meanwhile, the company is producing more than one billion battery cells a year at the Ellwangen site – up to four million batteries a day. “Our innovation-oriented focus drives us. It has made our 130-year history possible and has made us as successful as we’ve become,” says Herbert Schein, CEO of VARTA AG. With its subsidiaries VARTA Microbattery GmbH and VARTA Storage GmbH, VARTA AG is active in the widest range of applications for lithium-ion batteries – which include things such as tiny button cells for hearing aids or headsets. The company has also been setting standards with new products in the field of energy storage for homes or buildings.    About VARTA AG As the parent company of the Group, VARTA AG is active in the business segments Microbatteries and Energy Storage Solutions through its operating subsidiaries VARTA Microbattery GmbH and VARTA Storage GmbH.
