- The VARTA flex storage commercial solution increases electric car charge capacity
- Cars “fill up” on solar power overnight
Electric mobility is gaining traction. This increased popularity is presenting automobile retailers and workshops with new challenges. Against this background, VARTA Storage GmbH, a subsidiary of VARTA AG, and Porsche Holding Salzburg (PHS) have decided to cooperate. With immediate effect, PHS is adding the commercial VARTA flex storage solution to its portfolio. Herbert Schein, CEO of VARTA AG: “We are extremely pleased to be working with Porsche Holding Salzburg; this cooperation confirms our corporate strategy. Following the most successful year ever for our home storage systems, we are now raising the bar in the commercial storage market too.
Porsche Holding Salzburg is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG and Europe’s largest automobile retailer with operations in 27 countries. Through its MOON brand, Porsche Holding Salzburg offers a complete solution for charging infrastructure. MOON will now deploy storage systems that include VARTA’s own innovative battery technology.
Reiko Stutz, General Manager Commercial Storage Solutions at VARTA Storage believes that the cooperation with PHS is a showcase implementation for economic use of commercial storage: “The increasing number of electric vehicles means ever greater power requirements at mains electricity connections. The VARTA flex storage commercial storage solution acts as a buffer to even out peak loads and avoid the need for large investments in grid infrastructure. Our ‘electrical turbo charger’ optimizes the dealership’s on-premises charging capacity.”
The highly flexible commercial VARTA flex storage solution allows PHS to respond to a wide range of client requirements. Working with VARTA provides clients such as automobile dealerships with access to tailored solutions covering the generation, distribution and storage of solar energy. The modular turnkey VARTA flex storage solution can be connected directly to the 400VAC main grid and also guarantees high availability and quality of supply.
“Our aim is to make dealerships fit for purpose when it comes to new energy and electric mobility,” explains Stutz. “The rise to dominance of electric mobility will create challenges for the automobile retail sector, dealerships and workshops,” he continues. The demand for electric power is particularly high when several high powered electric vehicles are charging at the same time. This will be a common scenario for automobile dealerships. A further challenge is how to store renewable solar power generated by roof-mounted photovoltaic cells for use overnight, thus ensuring a sustainable supply of power for e-mobility. The VARTA flex storage commercial storage system provides PHS with just such a solution.
The flexible system can provide power when it is needed, also optimizing all other consumption from the mains supply. The profitable use of self-generated power also increases. Thanks to the system, the dealership can optimize its energy management and achieve tangible reductions in energy costs.
