At this year's LOPEC, VARTA will present current projects on printed batteries and the new generation A4 of VARTA CoinPower®. The technology company will also be presenting Innpaper, BEWELL and OxiFlexIT, three research projects from the field of printed electronics.
The printed battery market is one of the fast-growing markets of the future. Beyond the above mentioned research projects, VARTA is working on printed battery solutions for, among other things, logistics 4.0. The aim is to produce thin, flexible and attachable battery cells that enable new business models and applications.
Innpaper – Printed Zinc-Carbon Battery
The aim of the project is to demonstrate the possibility of the paper-based common electronic platform by developing real use cases. In Innpaper, paper is used both as a substrate and as an active component. The battery will be used in stand-alone multiplexed disposable smart labels, paper-based quantitative PoC immunoassay and stand-alone PoC genetic testing.
BEWELL – Printed Lithium-Ion Cell
BEWELL aims to monitor and promote the physical and emotional well-being of patients through wearable sensors. The goal is to develop integration and manufacturing technologies needed for smart skin patches and wrist-worn electronic sensor applications.
OxiFlexIT
A monitor/oximetry patch is to be developed to individualise therapy for arteriosclerotic vascular diseases. It can be used both on an outpatient basis, during an intervention, operation or rehabilitation, and in the development of new fields of application.
As an innovation and technology leader, VARTA can draw on a wide range of technological know-how. Most recently, the battery expert launched the new generation A4 VARTA CoinPower® on the market. The new VARTA CoinPower® is used in forward-looking technology of cordless and mobile devices in the field of wearables, Internet of Things, smart home applications, medicine and health as well as in Industry 4.0. The lithium-ion button cells enable the production of increasingly compact and smaller devices with a high level of convenience for the consumer.

LOPEC is the leading trade fair and congress for printed electronics. Year after year, it brings together leading players from application to research from all continents. As a cross-sectional trade fair, LOPEC highlights current trends, presents innovative products, shows market opportunities for the industry and promotes the development of new materials, manufacturing processes and application areas. Due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, LOPEC will be held purely this year.
