VARTA adopts Human Rights Policy Statement and signs the UN Global Compact

As part of its ESG efforts and further action towards sustainable and responsible corporate governance, VARTA AG's Executive Board has adopted a policy statement on human rights and joins the UN Global Compact.

VARTA AG and its affiliated companies are committed to comply with human rights due diligence requirements, to strengthen human rights and to enable affected people to seek remediation in the event of a human rights violation. This applies to VARTA’s operations globally as well as in its value chain. Across VARTA’s operations these values – both in its operating businesses and non-operational activities, such as construction projects – are taken into account. VARTA, the technology company thus also fulfils a requirement of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act.

"VARTA takes compliance with and monitoring of human rights and environmental due diligence seriously. For that reason, the overall responsibility for the strategic alignment for compliance and monitoring of human rights and environmental due diligence lies with the Executive Board. With the declaration based on internationally recognized frameworks, we have developed a baseline which we are building on in the coming years. We have added those values and principles as guidelines in our Code of Conduct and have integrated it into VARTA’s procurement terms and conditions and into the VARTA Supplier Code of Conduct", says Rainer Hald, Chief Technology Officer of VARTA AG.

Any information on misconduct or violation of the policy or legislation can be submitted anonymously via a whistleblower system. The implementation of human rights due diligence is an ongoing process that is regularly reviewed and revised.

The Human Rights Policy Statement is published on the VARTA AG website.

By signing the UN Global Compact, the global company from Ellwangen in Germany demonstrates its strategic alignment of sustainable and responsible corporate governance. Based on the ten universal principles and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN Global Compact pursues the vision of an inclusive and sustainable economy.
